About
Liv Ash is a music teacher, singer-songwriter, producer, and recording artist from Kansas City, Missouri. Taking up piano at 5 years old, that was just the beginning of the 4 other instruments that they would take on. Liv started writing songs at 10 years old and made a trip to Nashville at age 12, co-writing Worship and pop music with songwriters in the area. Liv put out their first record at 13 with Grammy-award winning producer Bryan Fowler. From then, Liv started writing and recording songs for TV & Film, and since then has over 30 placements on TV shows and programs. “I am most proud of getting my song on the NFL and another one on a UFC championship commercial. It’s so mind blowing to see how they take a song and fit it perfectly into a show.”
Liv started teaching piano lessons at 16, and quickly realized how passionate they were about unlocking that passion of music in kids. They also led a kids choir at Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City, and was a part time Worship Leader there for over 5 years. Liv taught 40+ people private music lessons in the KC area before moving to Nashville in October 2021.
Liv’s Teaching Philosophy: “I like to look at the journey of learning music as a relationship. Just like real life relationships, it has its ups and downs and everything in between. I like making learning fun and personal for each person, and want them to know that musical knowledge is something they can use forever and no one can take that away from them. Having a relationship with music is so rewarding and worth the hard work!”
Questions & Answers
Why do you love teaching and mentoring?
“As someone who has ADHD and also loves learning new things… I have always valued the teachers and mentors who have been patient with me and taken the time to get to know me as a student. I work very well with hyper kiddos because of that reason. I understand how it feels to be willing to learn but lacking in focus. From my own personal experience, I now know how to work with kids that need it to be more personalized and engaging. On the other hand, it’s also fun teaching focused and naturally diligent students! I believe everyone has a passion for music waiting to be unlocked, so I make it my mission to go on that journey with every person who is willing to have an open mind and put in the work!”
What causes are you passionate about?
“I am passionate about music history, activism and inclusivity, environmentalism, teaching, and being a student! I am always looking to learn more, because I believe that the best teachers are actively learning as students also.”
Where do you look for creative inspiration?
“Podcasts, movies, vinyls, nature, art and science. Everything we see has been created by something or someone, and I believe you can take inspiration from anything.”
