Unlock your child’s creativity with modern music production lessons at ROOTS Academy, where they’ll learn to create high-quality recordings and develop their unique sound.

music production details

Beginner music production lessons provide a solid foundation for aspiring music producers. By mastering the basics of digital audio workstations, MIDI, music theory, recording, mixing, and mastering, you’ll gain the skills necessary to create professional-sounding music.

Additionally, lessons on workflow, creativity, collaboration, and feedback help you develop a well-rounded approach to music production. Practice and experimentation are key to honing your skills and finding your unique voice in the exciting world of music production.

What you’ll learn

We offer a comprehensive curriculum when teaching music production classes:

  • Understanding Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs): A digital audio workstation is the central software used for music production. Lessons on DAWs introduce you to popular software like Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, or Pro Tools. You’ll learn the basic features, layout, and functionality of these tools, including recording, editing, arranging, and mixing audio tracks.
  • MIDI and Virtual Instruments: MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a protocol that allows communication between electronic musical instruments and computers. Beginner lessons teach you how to use MIDI controllers, create MIDI sequences, and explore virtual instruments. Virtual instruments simulate real instruments and are an essential part of music production, enabling you to create diverse sounds and melodies.
  • Basic Music Theory: A solid understanding of music theory enhances your ability to compose and arrange music. Lessons cover key concepts like scales, chords, melodies, and rhythm. You’ll learn how to apply these principles in your productions to create harmonies, build chord progressions, and craft catchy melodies.
  • Recording and Sampling: Recording audio is an important skill in music production. Lessons focus on microphone techniques, recording instruments, and vocals. Additionally, sampling, which involves using pre-recorded sounds in your tracks, is also explored. You’ll learn how to edit, manipulate, and integrate samples effectively.
  • Mixing and Mastering: Mixing involves balancing and enhancing the individual elements of a track to create a cohesive and polished sound. Lessons introduce you to techniques such as volume balancing, EQ (equalization), compression, panning, and effects processing. Mastering, the final stage of music production, teaches you how to prepare your tracks for distribution by optimizing their overall sound quality.
  • Workflow and Creative Process: Developing an efficient workflow and nurturing your creative process is crucial in music production. Lessons guide you on organizing your sessions, using templates, utilizing shortcuts, and exploring different production techniques. You’ll also learn how to overcome creative blocks, experiment with ideas, and develop your unique style.
  • Collaboration and Feedback: Music production often involves collaboration with other artists and professionals. Lessons touch on effective communication, file sharing, and receiving constructive feedback. You’ll discover the importance of seeking input from others to refine your productions and grow as a music producer.
