Frequently Asked Questions
We would recommend our Disney Classics Camp (1st – 5th graders). This camp is geared toward our younger students and is a great way for kids to learn some basics in music while having fun and making friends.
2018-2019 Season: Our venue is secured 9 months before the recital. Unfortunately, we did not anticipate the growth in our program and it was too late to make a venue change. Due to the number of students performing in the recital and the limited capacity of our venue (600 seats), we are only able to allocate 4 tickets to ensure that every student’s family members have the ability to be able to attend the recital. We are already looking for larger venues for the 2020 recital and beyond, to alleviate this restriction.
If the class you would like to enroll in is full, please register for the waitlist. This will put you in line to be notified if space becomes available in the class. When a spot in the class becomes available we will contact you and confirm that you are still interested. You will not be charged tuition until a spot for your dancer is guaranteed.
2019dance recital will be held at
Ingram Hall at Vanderbilt. For more details please go to the Recital page.
Depending on age, we recommend Preschool Boogie Camp, Princess Dance Camp, and Hip Hop Camp for beginner students who are looking to have a great time!
While we’d love for you to continue your education with us before and after summer camps, you do not have to be a current student in order to attend camps. Anyone is welcome!
We recommend purchasing all dance attire at Bellissimo, a dance boutique right here in Franklin. The address is 790 Jordan Road, Franklin, TN 37067.
On Monday, April 22, 2019, you will receive a unique code per family that allows you to purchase up to 4 tickets per show that your dancer is performing in. Included in those 4 tickets are 2 complimentary* tickets per dancer. If your dancer is in more than one show, the 2 complimentary tickets can be used for the show of your choice.
*A $1 processing fee will be charged per ticket
Example: The Brooks family has 1 dancer in recital: Susie. Susie is performing in the Saturday 2pm show. Mrs. Brooks can add 4 total tickets to her cart for the Saturday 2pm show. Of those 4 tickets, 2 will be complimentary (processing fees may apply). If Mrs. Brooks needs more tickets after her 4 tickets are purchased, she will need to wait until noon on May 6 to see if any more are available to purchase.
During this presale period, each family is limited to 4 tickets per show to ensure that every family gets tickets to recital.
At this time, we do not offer any ROOTS adult dance classes. However, we host Area54 HipHop classes on Tuesdays (Beginner Hip Hop) and Wednesdays (Advanced Hip Hop) at 7:30pm. Check them out here
Our friends at b.fab.fitness also offer some amazing adult fitness classes at the studio! Check them out here.
Ingram Hall at Vanderbiltdoes offer handicap seating, but it is very limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cancellations made prior to one month before the camp start date are eligible for reimbursement in the original form of payment, minus the $50 processing fee.
Some camps will run through lunchtime and will require students to bring a packed lunch. Make sure you read through your camp’s description to see if lunch will be needed. ROOTS will provide snacks for camps.
We have water dispensers stationed around the studio, and we encourage students to bring refillable water bottles.
We recommend fitted dance apparel, such as leggings, tank tops, dance shorts, and leotards. For hip hop, layers can be worn such as joggers, sweatpants, T-shirts, and hoodies.
Shoes: Tennis shoes are required for hip hop. Ballet shoes (canvas or leather depending on age) are required for ballet. For jazz and lyrical, we recommend pirouettes or jazz shoes. For contemporary, dance socks are permitted.
Hair: Hair should be pulled up and out of the face to avoid distraction.
2018-2019 Season: The costume fee is $89.95 per class and it includes everything your student needs to participate, except shoes and accessories (tights, hair, etc). The dance office will communicate shoe and accessory requirements well in advance of the recital.
All Preschool (Ages 3-5), Mini (6-8), Junior (9-11), Teen (12-15) and Senior (15-18) dancers participate in the recital. The following classes will NOT perform a routine in Recital: Acro, Skills, FUSION, Mini/Junior Company Ballet, and Pre-Pointe.
All ROOTS Camps (besides Dance Intensive) will have an end-of-camp performance to showcase all that students have learned. Details regarding the performance may vary for each camp and will be sent out closer to camp time.
Nope, our music camps are open to everyone. We love new faces!
Yes! We will host Master Classes and Workshops to give our dancers and dancers in the community opportunities to come in and learn from the best. You can find out more about ROOTS Dance Master Classes and Workshops here.
Unfortunately, fees that have been paid have already been budgeted into the planning and production of the recital. As a result, we are unable to refund costume and participation fees. No exceptions.
Please contact the dance office to inquire about your specific situation. We will do our best to try and accommodate the request, but we cannot guarantee a yes due to the many factors that go into recital preparations: costume availability, time to learn the recital choreography, student placement, etc.
Depending on age, we recommend Camp Dance for beginner and intermediate students who are eager to advance their technique in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. Our Summer Intensive is geared toward advanced students and is great for students looking to be challenged in a fast-paced and focused atmosphere.
Check-in will begin 15 minutes before camp begins. Check-out will begin promptly at the camp end time. There is no after-camp care.
The ROOTS camp staff includes a dedicated group of vetted and experienced teachers. Most are year-round ROOTS mentors, but some have been hired specifically for their camp because of their expertise in the summer camp topic.
If you have more than one routine in Recital, you will have a Costume Fee per routine. Families with more than one Costume Fee will use the Fee Schedule below. The most expensive Costume Fee will be charged first.
PLEASE NOTE: Families with 4 or more Costume Fees will split their Costume Fee Total into 3 equal amounts to be paid on Oct 1, Nov 1 and Dec 1.
- October 1st – Recital Costume Fee #1
- November 1st – Recital Costume Fee #2
- December 1st – Recital Costume Fee #3
2018-2019 Season: Every dancer is given two complimentary tickets per show that they are performing in. Each family is able to purchase up to two additional tickets for $11 each (+tax). Once pre-sales are over, we will release the remaining tickets to the general public in which you can purchase as many you want at the same $11 price until they are sold out.
The money-back guarantee is based on the following requirements:
- The student is required to attend four consecutive weeks of lessons/classes
- Parent/student must notify the front office regarding their dissatisfaction by the third week, giving us an opportunity to improve your learning experience.
- Refunds will be paid by check and delivered within 10-14 business days.
Sure! During the months of September through January a make-up class may be scheduled for a missed Toddler, Preschool, or Mini level class up to one month after the missed class. Students are welcome to make up their class during another class time at their same level or below. Simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know that you will be out for your class to schedule a make-up class. After January, make-up classes are not offered due to recital preparation.
The recital is at the end of the second semester of dance, typically in June. The exact dates will be announced in our monthly FOOTNOTES, ROOTS Connect pages, and on our main Recital Page. When dates are announced, we suggest reserving those dates to ensure that you are available. Rehearsal times and more details will be communicated in the Spring semester.
Recital participation requires one costume fee per routine (ranging from $80-$90 + tax) and one Performance Fee ($100) per participant. For your convenience, these fees are split up throughout the year. The recital will also require the purchase of tickets.
Absolutely! 2019 will be the last year we perform at our current venue. We will announce the official venue in the Fall, which will have the capacity to offer more tickets.
Recital participation is not required, however, it is strongly recommended. We expect that all ROOTS dancers are performing in the Recital unless we hear otherwise. If you are unable to perform, please email us as soon as possible to let us know: email@example.com
The first step to determining the appropriate class for your dancer is to find the appropriate age division, Toddler (ages 2.5. – 3), Preschool I (ages 3-4), Preschool II (ages 4-5), Mini (ages 6-8), Junior (ages 9-11), Teen (ages 12-14), and Senior (ages 15-18). Age is determined by the student’s age as of August 15th. Open classes require no dance experience. Placement classes are more advanced for dancers with previous experience. For placement classes, the ROOTS dance staff would love to set up a quick placement meeting with your dancer. To schedule please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
All dancers are encouraged to participate, but recital participation is not required. All recital fees will be communicated and posted in the month of October. Because of this, Families will need to opt out of Recital before October 1. Dancers that choose not to participate will still be able to participate fully in their class and will still learn the recital dance. Any dancer that joins after this time will still be allowed to participate in recital, pending costume availability and may be subject to added fees.
