Frequently Asked Questions
All dancers are encouraged to participate, but recital participation is not required. All recital fees will be communicated and posted in the month of October. Because of this, Families will need to opt out of Recital before October. Dancers that choose not to participate will still be able to participate fully in their class and will still learn the recital dance. Any dancer that joins after this time will still be allowed to participate in recital, pending costume availability and may be subject to added fees.
We would recommend our Disney Classics Camp (1st – 5th graders). This camp is geared toward our younger students and is a great way for kids to learn some basics in music while having fun and making friends.
We recommend purchasing all dance attire at Bellissimo, a dance boutique right here in Franklin. The address is 790 Jordan Road, Franklin, TN 37067.
The recital is at the end of the second semester of dance, typically in late May, early June. The exact dates will be announced in our monthly FOOTNOTES and on our main Recital Page. When dates are announced, we suggest reserving those dates to ensure that you are available. Rehearsal times and more details will be communicated in the Spring semester.
Recital participation requires one costume fee per routine (ranging from $80-$90 + tax) and one Performance Fee (about $100) per participant. For your convenience, these fees are split up throughout the year. The recital will also require the purchase of tickets.
Cancellations made prior to one month before the camp start date are eligible for reimbursement in the original form of payment, minus the $50 processing fee.
All ROOTS Camps (besides Dance Intensive) will have an end-of-camp performance to showcase all that students have learned. Details regarding the performance may vary for each camp and will be sent out closer to camp time.
Some camps will run through lunchtime and will require students to bring a packed lunch. Make sure you read through your camp’s description to see if lunch will be needed. ROOTS will provide snacks for camps.
We have water dispensers stationed around the studio, and we encourage students to bring refillable water bottles.
Unfortunately, fees that have been paid have already been budgeted into the planning and production of the recital. As a result, we are unable to refund costume and participation fees. No exceptions.
The money-back guarantee is based on the following requirements:
- The student is required to attend four consecutive weeks of lessons/classes
- Parent/student must notify the front office regarding their dissatisfaction by the third week, giving us an opportunity to improve your learning experience.
- Refunds will be paid by check and delivered within 10-14 business days.
If the class you would like to enroll in is full, please register for the waitlist. This will put you in line to be notified if space becomes available in the class. When a spot in the class becomes available we will contact you and confirm that you are still interested. You will not be charged tuition until a spot for your dancer is guaranteed.
If you have more than one routine in Recital, you will have a Costume Fee per routine. Payment plans are available for families with more than one Costume Fee. You can contact the dance office for more information!
The ROOTS camp staff includes a dedicated group of vetted and experienced teachers. Most are year-round ROOTS mentors, but some have been hired specifically for their camp because of their expertise in the summer camp topic.
At this time, we do not offer any ROOTS adult dance classes. However, we host Area54 HipHop classes on Tuesdays (Beginner Hip Hop) and Wednesdays (Advanced Hip Hop) at 7:30pm. Check them out here
Our friends at b.fab.fitness also offer some amazing adult fitness classes at the studio! Check them out here.
The first step to determining the appropriate class for your dancer is to find the appropriate age division, Toddler (ages 2.5. – 3), Preschool I (ages 3-4), Preschool II (ages 4-5), Mini (ages 6-8), Junior (ages 9-11), Teen (ages 12-14), and Senior (ages 15-18). Age is determined by the student’s age as of August 15th. Open classes require no dance experience. Placement classes are more advanced for dancers with previous experience. For placement classes, the ROOTS dance staff would love to set up a quick placement meeting with your dancer. To schedule please contact dance@rootsacademy.net.
Recital participation is not required, however, it is strongly recommended. We expect that all ROOTS dancers are performing in the Recital unless we hear otherwise. If you are unable to perform, please email us by as soon as possible to let us know: dance@rootsacademy.com
Nope, our music camps are open to everyone. We love new faces!
Check-in will begin 15 minutes before camp begins. Check-out will begin promptly at the camp end time. There is no after-camp care.
We recommend fitted dance apparel, such as leggings, tank tops, dance shorts, and leotards. For hip hop, layers can be worn such as joggers, sweatpants, T-shirts, and hoodies.
Shoes: Tennis shoes are required for hip hop. Ballet shoes (canvas or leather depending on age) are required for ballet. For jazz and lyrical, we recommend pirouettes or jazz shoes. For contemporary, dance socks are permitted.
Hair: Hair should be pulled up and out of the face to avoid distraction.
Depending on age, we recommend Preschool Boogie Camp, Princess Dance Camp, and Hip Hop Camp for beginner students who are looking to have a great time!
All Preschool (Ages 3-5), Mini (6-8), Junior (9-11), Teen (12-15) and Senior (15-18) dancers participate in the recital. The following classes will NOT perform a routine in Recital: Acro and Skills
While we’d love for you to continue your education with us before and after summer camps, you do not have to be a current student in order to attend camps. Anyone is welcome!
Depending on age, we recommend Camp Dance for beginner and intermediate students who are eager to advance their technique in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. Our Summer Intensive is geared toward advanced students and is great for students looking to be challenged in a fast-paced and focused atmosphere.
