Junior Boys Crew

ROOTS Boys Crew is an all-boys, high-energy hip hop class that meets on Wednesday nights. Junior Boys Crew is for dancers from 9 to 11 years old.

The class mentor, Deavon Walden, says, “I appreciate this class because, while their energy can sometimes be crazy, I feel their love and admiration for learning and, weekly, I can see their growth in our lessons.”

The class infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and isolation. Recently, the class has been focusing on their rhythm, footwork, and musicality.

They start each class with a warm-up, then they follow along as Deavon leads them through a series of grooves to get them comfortable with basic hip hop movements.

They finish out the class by learning a fun and challenging combo.

Deavon does a great job of wrangling these guys in and getting them focused on the task…I was impressed! All while still having a good time and making the guys laugh.
