The 2022-23 competition dance team season at ROOTS Academy ended with ROOTS Dance Company competing in the Imagine National Dance Championship at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, TN. Each of our competitive dance teams represented ROOTS Dance Company with passion, resilience, excellence, and the most beautiful sense of community!

Jessica Stillman, ROOTS Dance Company Director, summed up the team’s National Championship experience below

This was our second nationals as a company. It was such a great way to wrap up the amazing season we had this past year. The wins are always fun and come with so much celebration, but it’s about so much more than that as a company.

It’s the team huddles before taking the stage, the celebrations and hugs afterward, the moments of failure and resilience, the team bonding during breaks, the emotional last moments for our seniors, the indescribable feeling that is performing and fighting for a goal alongside your teammates and so much more. Who we are as a team comes out in each of these powerful moments and challenges.

I love our dancers, families, and our incredible staff. I’m so eager to see what next season has in store for competition teams at ROOTS!

ROOTS Dance Company teams consist of dancers ages 4-18 and competed in multiple performances during Nationals resulting in:

• 5 National Champion Titles
• 10 Routines in Finals
• 8 Top 3 Placements
• 23 Top 10 Placements
• Choreography Award
• Teen Improv Challenge Winner

Competing at Dance Nationals was a transformative experience for our dancers. It showed the value of the hard work, dedication, and unity that developed throughout this year. Our competition dance teams put in a lot of extra time to learn new skills and overcome challenges along the way. Our success is not solely measured by trophies but by the growth, passion, and bonds developed in each dancer. As we hang our costumes and reflect on the incredible adventure of this year, we are so proud of how each dancer showed up not just for themselves but for the entire team.
