It has been 335 days since ROOTS competition teams were able to dance on a stage in front of a live audience. But on Friday, January 29th, that finally changed…

Our competitive dancers finally took the stage after almost a full year without performing. The competition setting was a bit different than a typical event with COVID guidelines and protective measures, but that didn’t make the experience any less worthwhile.

We were once again reminded of the nervous excitement as comp weekend draws nearer, the adrenaline rush right before we take the stage, the sense of accomplishment when the music ends, the happy tears and overwhelming joy when your friends and family rush to congratulate you, all the sweet moments in between…and we will never take those feelings for granted again.

We want to give a big shout out to both the dancers and their parents for seeing this past year through. It was a weird year, but we made it and we look forward to what’s ahead with excitement and open arms.

Also, a BIG thanks to Saskia Harmon (Dance Director), Jessica Stillman (Company Manager), Jen Burns (Operational Manager), and Liza ter Kuile (Office Coordinator) for their leadership through the most challenging season we’ve faced. You’ve been a light through a dark time and we love and appreciate each of you greatly.

Another huge thank you to Kathleen, Jordan, Mandy, and Tucker for your wonderful choreography and dedication to getting these dancers ready for the competition stage. The time and attention you give expands beyond your actual hours of teaching and we are so grateful.

ROOTS competition teams take the stage again on February 26-28 at Star Systems. You can watch live and cheer them on here: LIVE STREAM
