Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have to be enrolled in music lessons at ROOTS to participate in a music camp?2019-07-03T11:50:52-05:00

Nope, our music camps are open to everyone. We love new faces!

My student is new to music and just wants to have fun. What camps are best for my child?2019-07-03T11:50:21-05:00

We would recommend our Disney Classics Camp (1st – 5th graders). This camp is geared toward our younger students and is a great way for kids to learn some basics in music while having fun and making friends.

What am I supposed to wear to the dance camps?2019-07-03T11:49:41-05:00

We recommend fitted dance apparel, such as leggings, tank tops, dance shorts, and leotards. For hip hop, layers can be worn such as joggers, sweatpants, T-shirts, and hoodies.

Shoes: Tennis shoes are required for hip hop. Ballet shoes (canvas or leather depending on age) are required for ballet. For jazz and lyrical, we recommend pirouettes or jazz shoes. For contemporary, dance socks are permitted.

Hair: Hair should be pulled up and out of the face to avoid distraction.

My student has never danced before, but is very eager to learn and be challenged. What camps are best for my child?2019-07-03T11:48:03-05:00

Depending on age, we recommend Camp Dance for beginner and intermediate students who are eager to advance their technique in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. Our Summer Intensive is geared toward advanced students and is great for students looking to be challenged in a fast-paced and focused atmosphere.

My student has never danced before and just wants to have fun. What camps are best for my child?2019-07-03T11:47:20-05:00

Depending on age, we recommend Preschool Boogie Camp, Princess Dance Camp, and Hip Hop Camp for beginner students who are looking to have a great time!

Will my student need to bring a lunch, snack, or drink to camp with them?2019-07-03T11:45:53-05:00

Some camps will run through lunchtime and will require students to bring a packed lunch. Make sure you read through your camp’s description to see if lunch will be needed. ROOTS will provide snacks for camps.

We have water dispensers stationed around the studio, and we encourage students to bring refillable water bottles.

Will I get to see what my child has worked on at the end of camp?2019-07-03T11:45:00-05:00

All ROOTS Camps (besides Dance Intensive) will have an end-of-camp performance to showcase all that students have learned. Details regarding the performance may vary for each camp and will be sent out closer to camp time.

Do we have to be enrolled in lessons or classes at ROOTS to participate in a camp?2019-07-03T11:43:59-05:00

While we’d love for you to continue your education with us before and after summer camps, you do not have to be a current student in order to attend camps. Anyone is welcome!

What if I need to withdraw my student from the camp? Do we get a refund?2019-07-03T11:42:40-05:00

Cancellations made prior to one month before the camp start date are eligible for reimbursement in the original form of payment, minus the $50 processing fee.

How early can we drop off, and how late can we pick up? Do you have after-camp care?2019-07-03T11:41:39-05:00

Check-in will begin 15 minutes before camp begins. Check-out will begin promptly at the camp end time. There is no after-camp care.

Who will be teaching my child at camp?2019-07-03T11:40:31-05:00

The ROOTS camp staff includes a dedicated group of vetted and experienced teachers. Most are year-round ROOTS mentors, but some have been hired specifically for their camp because of their expertise in the summer camp topic.

All dancers are encouraged to participate, but recital participation is not required. All recital fees will be communicated and posted in the month of October. If the class you would like to enroll in is full, please register for the waitlist. This will put you in line to be notified if space becomes available in the class. When a spot in the class becomes available we will contact you and confirm that you are still interested. You will not be charged tuition until a spot for your dancer is guaranteed.

How do I know which class is right for me?2019-06-07T14:01:17-05:00

The first step to determining the appropriate class for your dancer is to find the appropriate age division, Toddler (ages 2.5. – 3), Preschool I (ages 3-4), Preschool II (ages 4-5), Mini (ages 6-8), Junior (ages 9-11), Teen (ages 12-14), and Senior (ages 15-18). Age is determined by the student’s age as of August 15th. Open classes require no dance experience. Placement classes are more advanced for dancers with previous experience. For placement classes, the ROOTS dance staff would love to set up a quick placement meeting with your dancer. To schedule please contact dance@rootsacademy.net.
