Chris Ramirez

Drum Mentor

About

Chris Ramirez, also known as Chrisram, is an accomplished drummer celebrated for his dynamic rhythms and captivating performances. Born in Visalia, CA, Chris began drumming at the age of 10 after being inspired by a close friend to audition for their elementary school band. He continued his music education through middle and high school, where he studied under a master percussionist. This mentorship propelled him to perform in his school’s jazz band, earning accolades such as a CMEA Solo Award, Best Percussionist Award, as well as becoming a tenor player in an award-winning drumline.

After graduating from Cal State Monterey Bay with a degree in communications and journalism, Chris opted against a career in broadcasting, choosing instead to take a sales position at his local Guitar Center. This job allowed him to meet bands, band managers, and venues, helping him establish his reputation as a drummer within the music community. He later managed his own band and served as the creative director for a project called “Heavy Heart,” produced by Brian Kolb at the legendary Quad Studios in Nashville. After gaining credibility as a band leader on the West Coast, Chris decided it was time to move East and expand his skills in Music City. Since 2019, Chris has been actively performing, recording, and teaching drums in Nashville. He has also gained significant skills working as an educator in Metro Nashville Public Schools, teaching multiple subjects to students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. This experience has enhanced his drum instruction, enabling him to communicate effectively with every student and musician he works with.

Chrisram infuses positive energy and passion into everything he does. With over 10 years of experience as a professional educator, he has had the privilege of sharing his skills with more than 100 students, ranging in age from 3 to 75! Many of these students are young individuals whom he has inspired and supported in their music and life goals. Committed to helping the next generation, Chris finds his greatest joy in teaching drums. For him, it is a way of life. Today, Chris continues to push the boundaries of rhythm as he embarks on new projects, recordings, and performances throughout Nashville and beyond.

Chris’ Teaching Philosophy: “I embrace the mantra “break it down, build it up.” Drumming can often seem overwhelming, especially for beginners. To make the learning process more manageable, I focus on breaking complex rhythms and techniques into smaller, digestible components.
By dissecting a challenging groove or pattern, we can isolate the individual elements—like hand coordination, footwork, or dynamics—making it easier to understand and master each part. This method not only alleviates frustration but also instills confidence, as students see tangible progress with each small victory.

Once the foundational components are solid, we then build them back up, layering them together to create the complete rhythm. This step-by-step approach not only reinforces skills but also helps students appreciate the artistry of drumming as they see how each piece contributes to the whole.
Ultimately, “break it down, build it up” transforms the learning journey into an empowering experience, allowing students to embrace challenges and cultivate a deep, lasting connection to their instrument.”
