5.0 rating

Evan Carlyle Rees is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, songwriter, and producer originally from Tucson, Arizona. Born to a musical family, Evan began his musical studies at age seven in classical piano. He quickly gravitated to the world of improvisation and composition, and at age 15, Evan joined the jazz fusion ensemble Sylvan Street. After recording and performing the band’s first album, he realized his dream was to pursue a career as a professional musician.

Evan received his B.M. in Jazz Piano Studies from Arizona State University, and upon graduation worked as a pop keyboardist, jazz pianist, choral accompanist, pit orchestra musician, studio musician, musical director, arranger, and educator in Phoenix, AZ, San Francisco, CA, and Miami, FL. He has also toured internationally as a guest entertainer on Disney Cruise Lines and as the keyboardist for The Miracles (of Smokey Robinson fame).

Last year, Evan spent 8 months of intensive graduate study at The University of Miami Frost School of Music in composition and media production, where he had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of GRAMMY Award winning composer and producer John Daversa, Emmy Award winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, and GRAMMY nominated composer and arranger Gary Lindsay. Currently, Evan is pursing his career as an artist and songwriter/producer in Nashville, TN.

He spends his free time with his wife and two cats, and hikes as often as possible.

Evan’s Teaching Philosophy: “A tireless pursuit of holistic musicianship and honest expression will enable any student of music to find a lifetime of joy in their artistic journey.”

What type of music did you grow up listening to? Do you still listen to it today?
“I grew up on The Beatles, MUSE, Tchaikovsky, and Miles Davis, and later in high school discovered a love for country music. Now I’ll listen to anything I can get my hands on, there is so much to learn from every single song out there!”
